The focus of the learning in this knowledge module is to build an understanding of the key principles and approaches to reading and understanding the Bible in Africa, as the authoritative Word of God for an intergenerational Christian community. We will also gain an overview of the Bible, with a history of its origins, to appreciate the reliability of the text we have, and the miracle of its preservation.

Andrew F. Walls, in his article ‘Kwame Bediako and Christian Scholarship in Africa’ (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jdRX_cfFwsKVwZ6mevKqQ138zYbYvbUx/view?usp=sharing) confirms,

“the shift in the center of gravity of Christianity from the global West to the global South that was such a feature of the twentieth century made the quality of African theological activity a matter of universal, not just continental, Christian concern.” (2008:192).

This implies that African Christians hold a special responsibility and stewardship to the process of biblical interpretation for global education. Students will be exposed to Chronological Bible Storying as an effective method to overcome Bible illiteracy in an African, intergenerational faith community. Bible storying is a way of learning the story of God in a chronological sequence so that the complete story of God is understood from the very youngest child to the most mature adult.
