1. The pastoral counsellor’s role in working with children with counselling needs is to help, coaching, and facilitating in all aspects of life, although it is so sensitive that need criteria of the pastoral care for the effective execution of his or her role and to avoid hindrances to the role. The counselling primarily focuses on the needs of the counselee and is where the skill of attentive listening needs to demonstrate, pace him /herself to ensure that the need of counselee is thoroughly understood to provide sound and profound help.
2. One of the ways I have learned about and begin to use when talking with children at risk. Yes, I see these challenges that are experienced in the children ministry whereby those children are at risk, always in the street till late hours because of hunger. Most of children are staying with their grandmothers with their single Moms who are still young to cater for their children and always in alcohol and drug abuse.
The church intervention every Sunday provides with something to eat is so little because of material insufficiency and practical is to develop foundation faith building, teaching basic bible stories and truths (e.g. Creation, Jesus’s birth and Noah’s Ark) Teaching children how to pray and encouraging regular prayer, using age-appropriate methods to explain gospel and salvation according to age group. Memorizing bible verses that teach important lessons (e.g. love, kindness and forgiveness. Engaging in dramatic play to act out bible stories and develop empathy, Physical development outdoor play, parks and playground, Physical activity routines and music.
