1. What I Learned from Siang Yang Tan
I learned that the Holy Spirit plays a key role in Christian counselling. According to Siang Yang Tan, the Holy Spirit provides wisdom, comfort, and healing to both the counsellor and the client. The Spirit helps reveal deeper truths about a person’s problems and brings real change in their life.

2. My Views on the Interview and Video
I found the interview and video very helpful. Tan’s ideas about relying on the Holy Spirit offer a unique way to connect faith with counselling. His focus on prayer and listening to the Spirit reminded me that counselling should include spiritual care, not just emotional support.

He paints a beautiful picture of the Spirit as the ultimate Counselor, working side-by-side with therapists to bring about deep healing and transformation. Tan’s insights into both the subtle, behind-the-scenes work of the Spirit and the more deliberate integration of spiritual practices are both enlightening and practical.

2. It’s truly inspiring to hear Tan emphasize the Spirit’s active role in our work. It’s a powerful reminder that we’re not just going through the motions, but rather partnering with the divine to bring hope and restoration to those we serve.

What I learned:
The video by Siang Yang Tan, was incredibly insightful. What I learned was that the role of the Holy Spirit is supported in scripture. John 14, records a teaching of Jesus introducing the Holy Spirit as The Counsellor. The Christian Counsellor needs to therefore be dependent on the healing power of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those we counsel. “Counselling and Psychotherapy from a Christian perspective can be seen as a spiritual discipline, because it helps us to grow in Christ”, I found this statement by Siang really profound.

My views:
In light of what was mentioned above and in the video my Mr Tan, I became thankful that we can be continually filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). Even as we practice the spiritual disciplines, the Holy Spirit is helping us to produce Christ-like character, as mentioned in Galatians 5. The role of prayer in this discussion cannot be understated, we need to be in constant awareness of the Holy Spirit who guides and counsels us as we counsel others.
