My favourite sermon type is a Topical message It focuses on the theme but it uses multiple scripture references to explore a particular subject of life. There are two basic ways a topical sermon can have a Topical Parallel sermon and Progressive sermon. A parallel sermon will say Why does God love us? In 1John 4 Vs 8 God is love. God is our father and his DNA just shows how he loved us and sacrifice his only son so that we are saved. In a Progressive sermon it could stat by Where does God loves us? Read Luke 15 vs 11 to 32 The prodigal son. What manner of love is this after all faults he gives Forgiveness and accept him back home and the best robe and slaughter the best for his son. Never doubt Gods love no matter what.
Charity begins at home. Pastors must lead by example. At their Pastors are priesthood as declared by the bible. Pastors or Preachers must be able to disciple his or her own family. Lead them in scripture reading, praise and worship. It is said the family that prays together stays together. This will include spiritual guidance in your own home counselling and support. Ensure that your family is happy and their needs are taken care of holistically. It makes your burden if your own family is on the same page as the preacher. While the Pastor take care of the whole congregation the wife also stretch towards women in ministry in support of your calling and if you have a youth son or daughter they support your calling where they are keen and good at it. The whole family and the congregation connects with God easily. The Pastor addresses other needs and concerns, and ministering to those in times of difficulty. The preacher must ensure and commit to preaching the Bible and ensure he lives the Bible with his family and keeps the congregation grounded in the word of God. Preachers should encourage and support spiritual growth and providing opportunities for discipleship, fellowship and service.
A memorable sermon was based on the scripture Revelation 1 vs 8. I am the Alpha and Omega – the beginning and the end says the Lord God. I am the one who is who always was and who is still to come the Almighty One.’ God is all we need in our life in all circumstances .He never sleep nor slumber. He s bigger than was and that is today and that will be to come, Before everything was created ,there was God and he has the power to bring everything to light. It is a blessing to have a relationship with him. If we are sick or diagnosed with a chronic condition, we believe what men say about our condition and forget what God says. If you believe that God is your healer, who says you wont be healed wont matter because you would have believed God. People have been told you will not live for the next two weeks. God rose them from sicknesses and they lived .He is bigger than everything. He has a final say regarding our lives. He is in control. He has power over everything.
The Bible is considered to be God’s word by Christians because it’s God’s breathed or inspired 2Timothy 3 vs 16 to 17. The Bible is our source of guidance. It is the foundation of God’s promises. The Bible is direct communication from God. The Bible is Gods revelation in human language. The Bible is a way that God reveals himself to human beings. The Bible tells us that the word of God it is foolishness to the perishing. The scriptures of the Bible are what keeps us grounded. What the scriptures says is what gives us more testimony to say it is definitely the word of God his grace and this is testimony of scripture from beginning to end. The Bible is a record of eyewitness accounts of the miracles that are recorded in the Bible to be remembered. Scripture is God’s word, nevertheless no matter the age, people, or culture, there has been unity in the true church that the bible we is God;s word. Jesus himself takes scripture as his highest authority. When I say that I believe in the word of God means that we believe is Divine authority of the word of God. The Bible has the authoritative revelation to us from God. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. The unity of the Bible is one of the greatest pieces of evidence of its supernatural origin. This unity stands out in bold relief as we consider. The bible is presented as the most valuable thing that this world affords. Here is the wisdom, this is the royal law, these are the lively oracles of God. The bible is the only book that can interpret the past, the present, and the future.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take stand against the devil, s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the Heavenly realms.
As a Christian, remember that we are at war. This war manifests in different forms to some Christians, I will always be sick with no diagnosis, sometimes face hatred without having done anything wrong to anyone, some just don’t seem to have anything going their way in Yet, all this would be very hard and difficult to cope with, but one needed to remember that we are at war and God is on our side. The enemy always opposes everyone who does good and is of God. The enemy came to steal, kill, and destroy John 10: 10 but Jesus came to give life and life of abundance. The enemy is after Christians because he knows the do not belong to him. He will always torment you so that you lose focus and not do what God has created you to do. The enemy does not give up easily, you need to be persistent, pray and resist the devil. He will flee from you. As a child of God, you must revolt against whatever negative circumstance that the enemy is throwing at you and fully depend on the mighty power of Jesus Christ. Allow God to make you strong through his power. He did make me strong. The problem is when the heat is intense, that is when we lose focus. Keep your eyes fixed. Let the Lord remove all the fear and clothe you with boldness from above.
This is the firm belief that shapes our morals and norms as we grow knowing that there is an absolute truth based on bible principles. This is the basic truth that is revealed by the scriptures in the bible. This tells us that God is the ultimate authority in our lives. There is no other God that one can bow too if it is not God of the bible. This shapes our creation view of the world which was created by God. We then approach this worldview with the lens of how God views his design. We were all created in the image of God, and we must serve to glorify him and do his will on earth. Humankind falls short and sin against him in various ways and we go back to him and ask for forgiveness of sins. He is a loving God; he forgives us and redeemed us through his son Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must never take for granted our relationship with God who guide our steps on daily basis. Our beliefs, attitude and behaviors ‘must align with scripture we will not miss the will of God about us. Glorifying him in all aspects of our lives.
The Ministers Calling
I was 14 years old doing Grade 8 in 1977.There was this special ordeal that happened to me while we at school assembly. Our chorus leader led us in worship. We would worship and pray while in the mist of that I would cry for no reason, or I would pass out completely. One of the pictures I saw while in trance saw this beautiful very bright flowery garden a tall beautiful being in a white long robe open his hands and I ran straight to a good hug. I was led to Christ by the Chorus leader and the teacher. and I joined SCM at school and YWCM in the community and never looked back. “John 4 vs 24. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in Spirit and in truth”. I yearned more of the things of God at an early age and my life has never been the same.
